Fall Season Wrap-Up

St. Luke’s athletics enjoyed another productive and successful fall season, which featured many noteworthy highlights and achievements across all six varsity sports.

Boys varsity soccer had a tremendous season, winning the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) tournament title for the first time since 2009. The Storm beat Greenwich Country Day School on penalty kicks after the game finished in a 1-1 tie. Aidan Flannigan ’24 was the St. Luke’s hero saving two of the Tigers PK’s.

Girls varsity soccer also had a season to remember, finishing as runners-up in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) tournament. The Storm was given the number six seed but knocked off the number three seed Ethel Walker School 5-3 in the quarterfinals before beating the number two seed Kimball Union Academy 1-0 in the semifinal. The team put in another tremendous performance in the final but Greens Farms Academy denied them the victory by beating them 1-0. 

The St. Luke’s cross country team had another excellent season with Kathleen Coffey ’24 and Will Drapkin ’24 both making the All-New England teams. The pair qualified for the NEPSAC All-Star meet, where the top 20 runners from Class 1-4 compete.

The St. Luke’s field hockey team made the FAA semifinals before succumbing to tournament favorites Sacred Heart Greenwich. The Storm enjoyed a thrilling 3-2 win over Holy Child in the quarterfinals and finished with a regular season record of 5-11. The team recorded solid wins against Miss Porter’s School, Holy Child, Greenwich Country Day School, Kennedy Catholic School, and Hamden Hall.

St. Luke’s Volleyball struggled to hit the heights of previous years but finished 4-13 overall and will look to build on its record next year. The Storm recorded wins against Kennedy Catholic, Masters School (NY), and Millbrook School.

Suffering a number of injuries to key players, varsity football had a difficult season but continued to work hard until the end. The highlight of the season was a superb 34-21 win against Kingswood Oxford School. 

St. Luke’s also celebrated four seniors signing the National Letters of Intent to continue their athletic careers in college. Alexandra Bacher (University of North Carolina – softball), Ava Weneck (Harvard University – crew), Chad Ruggiero (Colgate University – golf), and Sienna Pilla (University of Georgia – equestrian) signed NLIs, officially committing to attend those schools.
