St. Luke’s Celebrates the College-Bound Athletes From the Class of 2023
St. Luke’s is proud to announce that 19 student athletes from the Class of 2023 will compete in their chosen sports at the collegiate level. This number represents approximately 23% of the graduating class, well above the national average of high school athletes who go on to play a varsity sport in college (7%). The St. Luke’s athletes recruited to play in college will compete across ten sports in both Division 1 and Division 3 schools.
The collegiate athletes are: Ale Andrade (polo, Texas Christian University), Josephine DeMarco (cross country, Emory University) Brian Gall (track/cross country, Babson College), Danny Gall (track/cross country, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), Catalina Hendricks (volleyball, University of Rhode Island), Justin Higgins, (baseball, Davidson College), Ben Hochadel (football, Hamilton College) Andrew Kress (football, Claremont McKenna), Alex Lanzilotti (baseball, Northeastern University), Mackenzie Nelson (basketball, Virginia Tech), Roderick Olson (football United States Naval Academy), Zion Profit (football, University of New England), Brielle Renwick (basketball and volleyball, Amherst College), Ethan Righter (baseball, Hamilton College), John Rosseel (swimming, Carleton College, Tani Smart (football, Hamilton College), Ava Sollenne (basketball, Quinnipiac University), Sam Stevelman (volleyball, Ursinus College), and Ethan Xia (crew, University of Pennsylvania).
The student athletes were celebrated at the St. Luke’s Athletic Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, May 23. At the awards ceremony, Athletic Director Matt Ward commented on the dedication and leadership skills of the honorees. “As we all know, leadership exists in many forms, from quiet leaders to the team motivator, to setting the standard with their work-ethic,” he said.“There’s no doubt that teams need all of these to perform at their best, and this next group of student athletes certainly contains these traits. In seeking opportunities to participate in sports at the next level, these students will continue to challenge themselves athletically, while balancing the academic demands at college. I have great respect and admiration for their continued commitment to athletics.”
